Location:  Lord Beaconsfield Elementary School

This program explores Canada’s North with food as an overarching theme. We begin the program seated around a large floor map of the Arctic and brainstorm with students the kinds of animals that might live in this region. During the program, we explore feeding strategies used by animals living on land and in the ocean as well as some aspects of life for people living in Canada’s North. Our stations include looking at animals that are scavengers, hunters, filter feeders and animals that use tools.

At the end of our program, we gather around the map for a brief conclusion and use the map to illustrate what is happening to ice in the Arctic and what impacts changes might have on the animals that live there. Finally, students discuss changes they can make in their daily lives that could positively influence animals and people living in Canada’s North.
