Welcome to the Secondary Level Ocean Literacy Course on the Ocean Wise Online Learning Environment. This course explores the 7 key principles of Ocean Literacy - designed for secondary level students to develop an understanding of how we impact the ocean and how the ocean influences us.

This course will both teach you about many fascinating aspects of our ocean while arming you with the ability to help conserve one of the most beautiful, complex, and important parts of our earth.
For each section there is a Badge to earn. You should complete all associated assignments before you can take the Principle quiz and earn your badge. If you complete all 7 of the Ocean Literacy Principle badges you may take the Final Quiz and submit the Written Assignment to complete the course!

Welcome to the Secondary School level Ocean Literacy Course on the Ocean Wise Online Learning Environment. On this platform we have created an international course based on 7 key principles designed to develop an understanding of how humans impact the ocean and how the ocean influences humans for secondary level students. This course is geared towards grades 10 to 12, or ages 15-18.

You may use these resources as you wish by choosing to do the full course or just a few of the sections. There is a How to Manual for navigating the site, as well as a video.

Under the heading Classroom Tools you will find additional support resources at your disposal such as lesson plans, activities and worksheets that can be accessed under Teacher Resources.

As a teacher, community leader, or home educator, you may join the platform first. This will allow you to view your students’ work and create accounts for students. Click Here and register using the code Teacher.

Students in the Middle School and Secondary level course may create their own accounts and profiles on the Ocean Literacy learning platform. We suggest having a general discussion with students about online privacy first, and ensuring they do not use their last names in their profiles to protect their privacy. To register, Click Here and use the code Student
If you click the Register button in the top right hand corner of the screen and create an account, this will automatically register you at the student level. If you are a teacher or educator and need to be promoted to the proper access level, please contact us with your username.
