Do you feel as if you are constantly glued to your phone now more than ever? We’re all in a very interesting and challenging position dealing with COVID-19, everything from work, school, meetings, interviews, doctor appointments and family calls have been shifted from in person to online. Human interaction has been very limited and so spending more and more time on technology has many effects on our mental and physical health, to add on top of that staying in quarantine has raised our screen times and there’s not really anyone to blame for that. So, take a detox from technology, a little cleanse.
How can you do this? Well participate in our Ocean Weeks challenge taking place on June 7; The Power Down Challenge. Unplug yourself from your devices, log down the amount of time you unplugged for, challenge your friends and take the time off to rediscover yourself in nature.
You can go further by: air drying your clothes instead of putting them in a dryer, wear a sweater if it’s cold that day instead of turning on your thermostat, unplugging idle toasters, coffeemakers, phone chargers, light switches and etc.
You can enjoy doing this challenge in any sort of way whether it’s by unplugging yourself entirely from technology or by taking a step towards it.
Check out some ideas for activities that don't require power here and here.
Share your time spent powered down by using the hashtags #powerdown #gooceanblue #oceansweekyouth and tag @youthtosea
You can participate by logging down your hours of down time on a piece of paper and challenge your friends. To make it easier, if you are not able to completely put your technology for an entire day then you could just lower the amount of time you are on your devices.
