Hello Sneaky Sea Urchins, Silly Sea Otters & Parents:
Whale, whale, whale, we had yet another splashtastic day!
We started off our day in our Frogs Forever gallery and learned about how frogs eat, and why some frogs and toads are extinct. We also went to our Vortex gallery and learned about plastic affects our oceans.
Next, we went outside to play a fun game of Deer-Wolf tag. We learned about some forest food chains.
We then go to go into the wetlabs. Marisa's camp got to learn about the difference between eel grass, rocky, and sandy ecosystems. We also got to touch a blood star, a sea cucumber, a sea anemone, sea urchin, and 2 hermit crabs! Rian's camp learned got to see different types of animals within each invertebrate phylum.
After our yummy lunches, we played some parachute games outside in the field.
As it was high tide today, we were not able to see many organisms on the beach on our beach walk. However, we learned about high tide, what it looks like on the sea wall and saw a couple otters swimming along in the ocean.
Some questions to ask your camper:
- What were the differences that you noticed in the eelgrass, rocky, and sandy shore ecosystems? In animals and in what they look like?
- How does plastic affect our oceans, and ultimately us?
Sea you tomorrow for another toad-ally awesome day!
