YouthToSea Group Call: Social Media

May 5, 2020  15:00

Location:

Meet up with fellow YouthToSea particpants to see how you can leverage social media to promote your service projects.

Check out these Instagram accounts from Jordan Hawkswell, an Ocean Bridge Alumni, in preparation for our social media webinar May 5th @ 3pm. Browse the accounts and take note of how they have changed over time, what content is posted, and consider the audience for both.

@zerowasteforestcity

Jordan started Zero Waste Forest City while living in London, ON and used it as her Ocean Bridge service project. She started the account from scratch and learned a lot along the way as she gained followers based on her thoughts/opinions/content/ etc. Jordan had a few people join her team near the end of her time in London, so there are a few guest posts and content made by other people. This account is a good example to see how things changed over time. Something important to note: this account has not been active for about a year but remains a resource for her and others.

@uclueletaquarium

The Ucluelet Aquarium (UA) Instagram is the professional account for the aquarium, Jordan took over running it in November 2019, sometimes other staff post as well but it is primarily her that manages it.

Jordan took over this account with a large audience already and is continuing to learn about what people want to see. Since this aquarium is small and independent of private funding, there is more flexibility in what she can post, and she can be creative with the content she curates.
