Hello YELP leaders and parents!
We had an amazing day, packed with learning and activities! It was great to see the leaders become more confident and comfortable with one another today.
What we did today:
- We started out the day with a rockfish survey in the galleries where we were able to feel what it is like to be a scientist out in the water counting animals! We then had an exploration of the Vancouver Aquarium galleries! We visited Vortex, Frogs Forever, and more!
- The YELPers mingled and did some team bonding activities to help us all get to know each other better.
- We next introduced the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, as the YELPers will lead the younger camps tomorrow on a beach cleanup of Devonian Harbour. We spent some time going over safety, the 'why' for the clean up, and organizing roles for tomorrow.
- After lunch we went to the Dolphin Program and saw some of Helen's amazing acrobatics and learned about some of the research that she is involved in.
- We then looked at some animal props and played a few fun games including the Magic Carpet Ride and Marine Mammal Trainer.
- We ended our day with working on our Crash Course videos. Each group showed off their creativity, knowledge and teamwork through their filming!
Questions to ask:
- What was challenging about the rockfish survey?
- What did you film for your crash course project?
