Hi, my name is Helen Hu, I’m in grade 12 and I go to Windermere Secondary School in East Vancouver. I like dogs, volleyball, and blasting music.

Watersheds are apart of the community's water supply and habitat to many species. Since watersheds are based of the chemical and physical aspect of rock, they form without limitations. I think it interferes with ocean conservation because since they have no boundaries, watersheds can continue growing and become nearby areas that can produce runoff draining into water harm watershed health. Mercury and lead going into the water supply due to pollution. As a result, polluted water supply becomes harmful to humans. It would kill species, and we wouldn’t have a clean drinking supply, so we would have to rely on drinking from plastic bottles. The cumulative effect is that oceans keep getting polluted with microplastics, chemicals, and agricultural waste. It all comes from the rivers and mountains that are being polluted. Since it has been an ongoing problem with individuals throwing waste into the ocean, it still continues today. In grassland ecosystems, watersheds have higher quality streamflow, forest resources, and provide recreational use of populations nearby. While desert ecosystems, watersheds a third of the runoff from the developed site resulted just from the compaction from the surface soils.
