About Event
An event by the BC Cetacean Sightings Network and Ocean Matters. There was a screening of the Emmy award-winning documentary, Sonic Sea, which investigates the devastating impact of industrial and military ocean noise on whales and other marine life. There were discussions with Michael Jasny, a leading expert in the law and policy of ocean noise pollution who has worked internationally to improve regulation of this emergent global problem. and Orla Robinson from the Port of Vancouver who discussed the results of the ECHO program's Vessel Slowdown Trial in Haro Strait, which studied the relationship of vessel speed and underwater noise to reduce impacts on whales.
