Please join us for this important SHARKTOBER edition of DIVE IN as Sylvia and Liz sit down in conversation with shark scientists, educators and activists Jasmin Graham, Amani Webber-Schultz, Carlee Jackson, and Jaida Elcock from Minorities in Shark Sciences (MISS), an organization recently founded to encourage minorities to enter the field of marine science, build support communities, and provide educational outreach to young scientists.
They are four young women of color, with intelligence, grit, and scientific chops on a mission to gather information about sharks and help preserve the species for future generations. They strive to make it easier for other women of color and other minorities to enter the field. They also wish to broaden awareness of the importance of the ocean ecosystem into more diverse communities.
Sylvia and Liz will have an open round-table conversation on their shared passion - sharks. They will talk about how they first were smitten by these sea creatures and decided to pursue careers in marine science. They will discuss the challenges they face and the heroes that inspire them, and why diversity is critical to future change and positive growth.
Presented by Ocean Elders and Medley Media.
