imagineNATIVE presents:

Our third Feature Fridays Screening is the acclaimed 1993 documentary Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance, by legendary filmmaker, Alanis Obomsawin. Despite dangerous filming conditions, Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance illustrates Obomsawin’s commitment to covering the events in Oka, Quebec, commonly referred to as the “Oka Crisis.” This feature will be available on-demand in Canada for free from June 18 through June 24, 2021.

Every Friday in June, we invite you to revisit a seminal work from early Indigenous Cinema. Each film in its own right represents a poignant moment toward Indigenous narrative sovereignty and self-determination. Frontrunner Indigenous directors include Zacharias Kunuk (Inuk), Merata Mita (Māori), Alanis Obomsawin (Abenaki), and Chris Eyre (Cheyenne/Arapaho). Collectively, these works transmitted narratives that shook up the world! So grab your favorite cup of tea, sit back and relax and immerse yourself in our stories. Films will be available on-demand in Canada for 1 week!
