About Me
I am a BSc biology graduate, I grew up in North Vancouver but ended up moving to Ontario for school, which only made me love Vancouver more! After graduating, I wanted to go on some adventures, so I moved to Revelstoke for a ski season and spent a winter skiing everyday. After the snow, I wanted some sun, so I set out for South East Asia with one of my good friends. I spent 6 months travelling, learned to ride a motorbike and fell in love with diving, some of my most treasured memories are spending day after day snorkelling and observing the macrolife of the reefs in Indonesia. I loved it so much I didn’t want to leave, so I moved to Vietnam and became an english teacher, where I got to work with and teach Vietnamese university students!
Although I love travelling, I also love any activity that gets me outdoors; my friends and I love to go on hiking and camping trips, kayak, swim, ski, snowshoe and most recently, bouldering. I've had incredible opportunities to work with people who are doing wonderful environmental research. In my final year of university, I wrote a thesis on how diluted bitumen (a pipeline oil) affects freshwater phytoplankton. This gave me the incredible opportunity of working at the Experimental Lakes Area for a couple summers to build an experiment simulating an oil spill.
Most recently, I have been a fisheries technician for a company, where I do lots of fish sampling, mostly of salmon and fishery validating. I get to work with lots of fun fish slime and meet all the old fishermen, which are such a hilarious group of individuals!
