The Characteristics of - and Antidotes to - White Supremacy Culture

From "Dismantling Racism: A Workbook for Social Change Groups" (Kenneth Jones and Tema Okun, ChangeWork, 2001) This list helps to point out how organizations unconsciously use characteristics of white supremacy culture as their norms and standards, making it extremely difficult to accept other cultural norms and standards. Many organizations, though wanting to be multicultural, really only allow other people and cultures to enter if they adapt or conform to existing cultural norms. Being able to identify and name the cultural norms and standards you want is a first step to making room for a truly multi-cultural organization.
