Professional Development

There are lots of ways to learn!

As part of Ocean Bridge Direct Action, you have access to funds for professional development training, which could include courses, certifications, licenses, and conferences.

These trainings do not necessarily need to be related to the work you do with Direct Action partners. This is an excellent opportunity to explore areas of interest and prepare for the next steps in your career. We are open to almost any type of training you can think of, so share your ideas with your Program Specialist!

CLICK HERE for inspiration! This resource is a list of training opportunities that participants and Direct Action team members have taken advantage of in the past. This is just a starting point, so think about what you want to learn.

Once you have a course in mind, send the PRO-D REQUEST FORM to DirectAction@ocean.org. We will take care of registration and payment on your behalf.

FAQ

Q: How do I register and pay for my trainings?
A: Once you've decided what trainings you want, send all relevant details (including the name of the course, course provider, and dates) using the provided template to DirectAction@ocean.org. We will take care of registration and payment on your behalf. Our admin team may contact you for additional details, and they will send you everything you need once you've been registered. You may submit more than one form as you confirm your choices.

Q: Do I need to take my trainings when I do my placement?
A: No, your trainings may start anytime as long as registration and payment occur within the program year. Though, it is best to start thinking about this as soon as you're able.

Q: Are there any trainings Direct Action cannot cover?
A: Direct Action can cover most types of training, as long as it fits within your stipend. Currently, we cannot cover certain types of open water SCUBA training. If you're unsure that your course can be covered or want to explore further options, talk to your Program Specialist.

Q: Does training time count toward my 360 service learning hours?
A: Yes! Any time spent on training, including travel to-and-from training locations, counts toward your service learning hours.
