First Day on the Water

Working at the North Coast Cetacean Research Initiative we study cetaceans in the Chatham Sound area. However, on my first day on the water we unfortunately saw no Humpback whales. We did however see some Harbour porpoise, I unfortunately was unable to capture a photo of the quick moving cetaceans bounding through the water. I did get a photo of two Bald Eagles sitting on their perch, if you zoom in you might be able to see their little white heads!

What a beautiful area ! Being out on the water is the best time, hopefully you have seen some Humpback whales since! I also saw two Bald Eagles yesterday at the water, such magnificent birds I am always so blown away by their size and wing span, how graceful yet powerful they fly :)
Thanks for the photo! It's okay not to take a picture of everything, like the Harbour Porpoise. We saw some phosphorescence in the water once and the magic just wouldn't record correctly - a wise sailor told us that "sometimes, it's just for you." Enjoy every moment!

Oct 29, 2020This is such a good point - the other weekend in Tofino the sunset was stunning and I wanted to get the perfect shot and then I thought, no I need to just sit and enjoy this and be present. It is certainly something I am looking to work on!
