About Me
My name is Sydni Long and I am from Powell River, a small town located on the Sunshine Coast. Growing up in a small town only accessible by plane or boat was isolating. However, it has allowed me to discover things to do outdoors and ways to entertain myself. Always interested in traveling, new places, and the environment, I took my studies to University of Victoria where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography with a concentration in Coastal Studies. It was in university where I became passionate about marine conservation and protection. The way I was able to format my degree allowed me to study marine conservation, and how each approach results in a different outcome. More specifically, I participated in the Ahousaht Field School out of the UVic Whale Lab. Learning about the migration and feeding habits of the Pacific Gray Whale in Clayoquot Sound is where I became extremely interested in Whale Geography. In my free time, I volunteer as a Sightings Analyst with the Wild Ocean Whales Society one day a week. I also love to spend my time mountain biking, hiking with friends, taking photos, reading, and getting out on the water.
