The second part of the Robson Bight warden program is working as a warden in part of the Johnstone Straight. The Robson Bight Michael Bigg Ecological Reserve, which is in the Johnstone Straight on the Vancouver Island shore, is 12km across and 1km offshore and this encompasses the Tsitika River estuary and 2 of the 3 rubbing beaches that the Northern Resident Killer whales use to socialize. Our job was to educate kayakers and vessel drivers about the Be Whale Wise guidelines, prevent people from entering the ecological reserve and to take data on boats and marine mammals.
