Charcoal (and Biochar) is made by burning organic material with limited oxygen. I this workshop we burned Japanese Knotweed (a notorious invasive species on the East Coast) to make biochar. This created charcoal that can be used as a soil amendment or as a sand substitute in cement creating a carbon sink.
