Welcome to the second National Dialogue!  This session will take place on Monday, June 7th from 11:00 - 12:00 PT/ 2:00 - 3:00 ET.

In this dialogue, we have invited Carlos Drews, the Executive VP of conservation at Ocean Wise to introduce conservation and its importance. Focusing on Ocean Wise’s Conservation Strategy, Carlos will provide Ambassadors with important information to better understand how conservation has shaped our mission and vision, and the role Ambassadors play as change makers in their own lives, their communities, and globally.  

Speaker Bio

Dr. Carlos Drews is a recipient of the LiverdPress Award for his lifetime conservation achievement. Prior to joining Ocean Wise, Carlos held the position of executive director of the Jane Goodall Institute (Washington, DC), and previously served as director of the World Wildlife Fund’s Global Species Programme (Switzerland). Among his many achievements, Carlos developed a first-of-its-kind toolkit for marine turtle adaptations to climate change; co-authored Costa Rica´s annual report on human sustainable development; and orchestrated an advocacy program to successfully influence the UN to establish wildlife crime as a serious global threat. A Colombian native, Carlos holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from Cambridge University. 

Learning Outcomes

• Develop an understanding of conservation and its importance by exploring Ocean Wise’s conservation strategy, and guiding principles (Direct Action & Climate and Ocean Literacy). 
• Explore the role that ambassadors must play as actors in promoting conservation in their personal lives and their communities.
