How do you compare western science and Indigenous worldviews? How do you authentically use traditional knowledge without appropriating it? These are just a couple of the questions that we will explore in Module 8 - Traditional Knowledge and Western Science. Join us on January 12th @ 3:00 pm PT / 6:00 pm ET as we invite Justin Milton from Ikaarvik to lead an interactive session to explore how best to incorporate Indigenous Cosmologies and ways of knowing into research and education. 

Meet our speaker

Justin Sigluk Milton is an Inuk from Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet), Nunavut, and the new manager of an Inuit-led group called Ikaarvik. Justin is currently living in Ottawa, and he is passionate about Inuit and the world of science and research. His career background includes working in the federal government as an indigenous outreach worker, as well as working in indigenous, not-for-profit organizations. Justin’s current role as manager (among others) is to identify gaps in Arctic research with the context of Inuit in the North. Building meaningful connections with Inuit and addressing community priorities is key to better research and Inuit engagement in the Arctic.
