Trash Trails
A couple of years ago I saw a picture on Instagram of two hikers packing out almost 50lbs of discarded waste from a popular hiking trail near Pemberton, BC. As an avid hiker in the area, this photo inspired me to take action. This year, as part of my socially distant service project, I've taken the challenge of cleaning hiking trails in my community! As lakes, waterfalls, and streams make for popular rest stops and view points, discarded waste can be often be found near these waterways. Fortunately, many of the trails I have visited so far have been relatively waste free, but many of the most popular trails have been closed due to COVID-19. It's hard to tell if small amounts of waste (~1 bag) is an accurate reflection of all trails, it is encouraging never the less! If you know of any trashy trails let me know!
