About Me

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be working at Ocean Wise and developing the Direct Action program along with the rest of my amazing staff team. It's a privilege to be a part of the national and global movements to make conservation and environmental issues a priority and to amplify the voices and actions of youth passionate about oceans and freshwaters.

A bit about me: I'm an interdisciplinary person by nature , being raised in Gujarat, India and moving to Canada at as a teenager. As an undergrad, I studied biological and environmental sciences, with a mix of international studies. Later, I shifted focus to a Master's degree in Anthropology, working with field research projects in Canada, India, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

I left academia with diverse perspectives to understand the issues that I'm most passionate about: socio-ecology and climate change resilience, and learning about integrated human-nature systems in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. My career has been similarly multi-faceted, I've worked as a journalist and producer at CBC Radio in Toronto, an instructor and manager at UBC and the College of the Rockies, and as an environmental educator and wilderness guide at Camp Kawartha and Camp Wanakita. My other favourite ways to learn and explore include travelling, learning languages, cooking, and reading.

You can usually find me outside birding, foraging for mushrooms and plants, and generally rambling around outdoors. When I'm not being a certifiable nature nerd, I teach and perform many styles of Latin dance, including salsa, bachata, and samba! I love all kinds of rhythm and movement really, both indoors and out - also chat with me anytime about hiking, rock climbing, canoe tripping, and yoga.
