Description
Welcome to Ocean Bridge 2021!
This is your first challenge as an Ocean Leader!
The Ocean Bridge staff team enjoyed each of your creative and thoughtful submissions from your applications to the 2021 cohort. We want to share that experience with Canada and create an opportunity for you to learn a bit about one another.
If you want to know more about your program facilitators and the Ocean Bridge steering committee check out the Steering Committee map.
Task
Tell us who you are, where you come from and why you are here by doing the following:
- Use the questions below to tell us about yourself and why you are excited to be a part of Ocean Bridge. It's meant to be informative, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun – so have fun with it!
Name (tell us your first and last name):
Pronouns:
Location (Traditional Territory and City/Town) - (tell us where you (and your family) are from, where you are now living if you have moved and what brought you there. Include an acknowledgment of the traditional territory or territories you are from/on. To learn about the traditional territory you are on, visit Whose Land):
What gets me up in the morning (tell us about what you enjoy doing):
A bit about me (tell us a bit about yourself including the answer to two of the following three questions):
An ocean-related issue close to my heart is...
My earliest/most influential memory of the ocean...
I'm excited to be a part of Ocean Bridge because...
Tell us something random about yourself (or use one of the following suggestions):
A person I admire is...
My favourite marine animal... - Go to your 2021 cohort map and click the orange "Add Location" button in the top right-hand corner.
- Fill out your name and location (where you are currently living) and upload your bio and photo to the "Description" section. NOTE: You will need to type in the name of your town/city then, you'll have to zoom in on the map and find your city/town. Pictures can also be tricky if they are too large – see if you can figure it out, but if not, give us a call and we will lend a hand!
Here is an example of what your bio could look like: Name: Nicole Straughan
Pronouns: She/her
Location: I live on the traditional terriroty of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations in Vancouver, BC.
What gets me up in the morning:
My cat Charles, the smell of coffee, sunshine and also the excitment that I get to connect with youth across Canada that share my love for our oceans every day! I spend many days outside enjoying nature whether its swimming at the beach in the summer, or snowshoeing up the North Shore mountains in the winter.
A bit about me:
Right now I'm really passionate about reducing the use of plastics in my home. Although I have a lot of awareness through work, it wasnt until visiting the remote beach of Lepas Bay (T’aalan Stl’ang) in Haida Gwaii that I really understood the scale of the marine debris issue. I have been fortunate to grow up by the ocean, but one of my favorite memories is sitting at the beach the day before I moved to the interior of B.C. for school and I was able to watch a pod of Orcas swim by.
My favourite marine animal: So many but.....MANTA RAYS, Nudibranches and Hermit Crabs are pretty special.
