Ocean Bridge Code of Conduct

Description

As a program, Ocean Bridge strives to create an inclusive, supportive, equitable, safe space for all its participants. As a community of individuals striving towards a better future for our Oceans and

our Planet, we must also support and value other

participants, staff members, and members of our community outside of Ocean Bridge. All participants must read, sign, and return the Ocean Bridge Code of Conduct by May 10th, 2021 in order to participate in the program.

As an Ocean Bridge Ambassador, I acknowledge and agree to:

  1. Have an active role in our collective responsibility to maintain a safe and inclusive space for participants, staff, and community members.
  2. Engage in conversations about making our spaces (both physical and online) more inclusive whether it be regarding language, behaviours or other areas.
  3. Engage respectfully and attentively in group dialogue, reflection, discussion (asynchronous and synchronous) and activities.
  4. Respect your own as well as each individual’s physical and emotional boundaries.
  5. Seek explicit consent before engaging physically and/or sexually with others, as well understanding that consent is an ongoing dialogue and process.
  6. Avoid taking up accessible spaces and/or resources if your needs are already met and recognize that those resources and/or spaces could be useful to others.
  7. Be responsible/accountable for your own actions, both online and in-person and be aware that your actions do influence others.
  8. Assume positive intent from others and be willing to listen and learn when the impact of your actions may not match your intent.
  9. Respect and use correct pronouns.
  10.  Use inclusive language.
  11.  Agree to abstain from drug and alcohol use, unless prescribed by a medical practitioner on remote learning journeys. Prescribed medicinal use cannot be shared with others.
  12.  Recognize that during our urban learning journeys, you will have some evenings off. During these evenings off, if you choose to have a drink with your peers, we expect you to act in a way that is appropriate to your position as an ambassador for our program.Consumption of alcohol does not remove your responsibilities to create and engage in a safe space for our community and to your service on your learning journey.
