Gary told stories of the Battle Island Lighthouse keeper and storms that sent waves crashing up the cliffs to smash the lighthouse door. When a lighthouse is unused and falls into disarray you lose a part of history, a physical story. When the last person who remembers the last lighthouse keeper is gone you can never get that story back. What is that lighthouse worth once it has no story? When we talk about conserving water and these places we should also be talking about how to conserve the stories surrounding it. These stories connect us, they are a reason to care. Grateful that we were able to share stories with the people who live on this Great lake.
