Young girls assist in shark tagging project off the coast of Halifax
In August, I recruited five young women interested in ocean science to assist with a shark tagging expedition in partnership with Ocean Tracking Network. It was a fantastic day on the water! Each youth member assisted in capturing sharks, data collection, and release. One of them has spoken to media about their experience to broaden the message and educational component of this project. Together, we helped OTN tag seven individuals which will help researchers in Halifax better understand their movements to aid in conservation efforts. Moving forward, I'll be working with each individual to create blog posts about their experience as well as a presentation that can be used to deliver info to their peers.
