Description

This national call was on Friday, September 25th at 4 pm EST (1 pm PST) 

Our three mentors Jennifer, Samantha and Zihan invited Lindsey Jones, Photo ID director at Allied Whale, College of the Atlantic to speak about marine mammal ID and necropsies!

Lindsey is the Director of Photo-Identification Research at Allied Whale at the College of the Atlantic, in Bar Harbor, Maine. She completed a master's thesis at the College of the Atlantic in 2018, entitled "The ocean-basin-wide movement patterns of North Atlantic humpback whales, Megaptera novaeangliae". At Allied Whale, she has been involved in many aspects of the non-profit organization's work, serving as the interim Marine Mammal Stranding Coordinator and Station Manager of the offshore research station Mount Desert Rock. Prior to that, Lindsey worked for the National Park Service in the Sea Turtle Division, the New England Aquarium, NOAA's Hollings Marine Laboratory, and Mote Marine Laboratory's Sarasota Dolphin Research Program. She graduated from McGill University in 2013, earning a B.Sc. in Environmental Biology and Wildlife Biology. Lindsey recently returned from a 58 day research expedition aboard the R/V Investigator, traveling from the west coast of Australia to the Kerguelen Plateau in the Southern Ocean.
