Make Your Own Bees Wax Wraps

Description

For this challenge, you will make your own BeesWax Wraps!

More than 8 millions tonnes of plastic enter our ocean every year. Scientists are saying that by 2050, plastic will outweigh fish in the oceans. Most of this plastic comes from land sources and a lot of it can be avoided.

The first step is to start to refuse and reduce single use plastic. Cling wrap is single use and easily breaks apart into microplastics. One thing you can do is to make your own, reusable cling wrap: Bees Wax Wraps!

Task

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Gather your supplies
    1. Cotton fabric
    2. Beeswax
    3. Jojoba Oil
    4. Pine Rosin
    5. Iron
    6. Parchment Paper
    7. Grater (if needed)
  2. Make your Bees Wax Wraps: Iron the beeswax, pine rosin and jojoba oil onto the cotton fabric. Let cool. Remember to only wash your BeesWax Wraps with cold water.
  3. Let us know how it goes! Was this product easy to make? Is it just as effective as plastic cling wrap? Tweet, post an Instagram picture or post to Facebook using our hashtags #OceanBridge #LeadersToday and tag @OceanWise @leaderstoday and @SocDevSoc
